노인의 공갈

An old farmer had a large pond in the back yard. It was fixed for swimming. On evening as he was walking toward the pond he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny dipping in his pond. Incensed at the intrusion, he resolved to put an end to it. He made the women aware of his presence and they all rushed to the deep end of the pond. One of the women shouted to him, “We’re not coming out until you leave!” The old man replied, “I didn’t come here to watch you ladies swim. I only came to feed my alligators!”


늙은 농부의 뒤뜰에는 큰 못이 있었는데 그 못은 수영장으로 개조됐다. 어느 날 저녁 그리로 가는데 희희낙락거리는 젊은 여자들의 소리가 들렸다. 다가가 보니 여자들이 알몸으로 몰속에서 뛰어놀고 있는 것이 아닌가. 노인은 외부 사람들이 함부로 그리로 들어온 사실이 화가 나서 다시는 그런 일이 없게 하기로 마음먹었다. 노인이 인기척을 하자 여자들은 황급히 못의 깊은 쪽으로 가버렸다. 그러면서 한 여자가 소리치는 것이었다. “가주지 않으면 우린 여기서 나가지 않을 거예요!” “난 아가씨들 수영하는 걸 보려고 온게 아니고, 악어들에게 먹이를 주려고 온거란 말이오!”
