Sir Lawrence(Laurents) ALMA-TADEMA(1836~1912) 1836년 폴란드출생. 

안트워프에서 유명한 고고학자 Louis de Taye를 보조하면서 

로마와 폼페이 문명을 연구했다. 

이러한 고대문명의 재창조는 심오한 그의 지식이 밑바탕이 되었다. 

고전적인 장면을 표현한 그의 작품을 평가해줄 시장을 찾기 위해 

영국에 정착했고, 마침내 가장 성공적인 로얄아카데미 회원이 되었다. 

특히 대리석위에 비친 빛의 효과와 수면위에 반짝거리는 빛을

잘 표현한 것으로 유명하다.
